Karnataka man sets fire to bank in Haveri after loan application rejected

Upset by the rejection of his loan application, a man allegedly set fire to a bank in the Haveri district of Karnataka on Saturday.

A 33-year-old man reportedly set fire to a bank office in Haveri district, Karnataka on Saturday, reportedly after his loan application was rejected.

The accused was identified as Wasim Hazaratsab Mulla, a resident of Rattihalli town.

According to reports, Mulla had submitted an application for a loan from the Canara Bank branch located in Hedugonda village, under the jurisdiction of Kaginele police. The bank rejected his application because his CIBIL score was low.

Enraged by the rejection of the loan request, Mulla reached the bank branch late on Saturday evening. He broke a window and spilled gasoline in the bank’s office. He then set fire to the office. Passers-by noticed the smoke and alerted the police and fire department.

Police said the fire caused damage worth Rs 12 lakh. Five computers, fans, lights, passbook printer, ticket counting machine, documents, CCTV cameras and ticket counters were destroyed.

The accused was arrested and a case was registered at Kaginelli Police Station under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
