Sam Cosgrove asks to ‘reject’ after Birmingham City ‘accepts’ loan terms

Birmingham City’s Sam Cosgrove has turned down the possibility of relaunching his career in Scotland.

This is according to twin title Daily Record which says the Blues had reached a loan deal with Dundee that would see the forward return to the Scottish Premiership.

However, the report says Cosgrove wants to stay in England and “make a name for himself” – despite a partial role at his current loan club of Shrewsbury Town.

Cosgrove moved to the Aberdeen Blues in last year’s January transfer window, on a deal that could be worth £ 2million.

He did so following two excellent seasons at Pittodria which saw him score 47 goals in three years.

However, he did not start a game under the guidance of the head coach who signed him – Aitor Karanka – and only received two starts from Lee Bowyer once championship safety was ensured. He was substituted at half-time in the second of those.

Cosgrove joined League One Salop in August, but after scoring several times in his first month, he hasn’t started a league game since October 16 and only managed four minutes of football last month.

The Daily Record says the former Aberdeen star is set to return from his loan but has other options in England that he wants to pursue.

He is highly unlikely to be reinstated in Lee Bowyer’s squad and when the Blues head coach was last questioned about him in late November, he expressed sympathy for the 25-year-old. .

“I feel for him because obviously he just wants to go play soccer, every kid wants to go play soccer.

“He thought that by going to Shrewsbury he would play, but it didn’t work out for one reason or another. We will have to examine this situation.

“I texted him when I saw him score, saying ‘well done and keep trying to do the right things’ and obviously he said thank you but since then it hasn’t worked for him.”

The Blues have Troy Deeney, Lukas Jutkiewicz, Chuks Aneke and Scott Hogan as senior options up front.
