More street vendors expected to benefit from increased loan amount: Shobha Karandlaje

While asking for more street vendors to benefit from the PM SVANidh loan scheme where the loan amount was increased to ₹50,000, the Union State Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare , Shobha Karandlaje, said Saturday that action would be taken against private banks that are not processing applications under the program.

Chairing the district development coordination and monitoring committee meeting in Udupi, Ms. Karandlaje said street vendors, who are more numerous in urban areas, are expected to benefit from the increased loan amount under the program and develop their business. As many as 3,500 street vendors in Udupi district benefited from the scheme in the financial year 2021-22

The Union minister said she will write to the finance minister about private banks not processing PM SVANidh’s requests. She asked officials to withdraw deposits from these private banks.

Asking officials to work to achieve central government programs and initiatives among the people, Ms. Karandlaje commended the work done by Udupi district administration in creating 9.25 lakh man-days of work under of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act this year. The district administration has been given a target of 7 lakh man-days. The district administration has undertaken community works like removing silt from lakes and digging open pits, as well as some private works under this law, she said.

The MP urged the railway officials to undertake the works related to the improvement of the basic facilities at the Udupi and Kundapur stations at the earliest.

Officials from the National Highways Authority of India have been asked to take charge of the ongoing highway improvement works and take action to reduce accidents in 30 black spots identified on the national highways. Bridge construction at Katpady and Ambalpady and junction improvement works at Santekatte should be undertaken as a priority, she said.

MPs Sukumar Shetty and Lalji Mendon, Coastal Development Authority Chairman Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, Deputy Commissioner Mr Kurma Rao and Udupi Zilla Panchayat Managing Director Naveen Bhat attended the meeting.
